Nice Video, By the way, do you know how to export VST automation, or how to include the VST automation when you export all you MIDI tracks to a single file? Thank you.
So I finally got the PCS12. But I wish someone would show how to map instruments from start to end. That's seems very hard to understand and no one is showing how it's done. Even the manual is hard to understand how to do it.
Sold bro. Great review for this product.
I have no idea how to use Nektarine, I was trying to map some commands from logic...but can't even follow your mapping thing...any useful tutorials of how to use this Nektarine software???????
How do you get them to all be synced to start at the same time?
This video is a literal goldmine of understanding. I just learned so much, thanks man. It was like the last secret sauce tidbits I needed to really solidify my understanding.
Glad it helped!
I have seen many vids, but I think u explained it where I could understand in plain English! :) If you have anymore suggestions, I would s till like another vid part 2, perhaps gain stage and how u mix. Thanks.
Love Geist 2. It plays well still on PC and older MacOS. I believe it to be a viable and comprehensible tool for beat baking. FXpansion created great software and I hope Roli who owns them ,decides to revisit it .
I like it.. What I wish they would have done was put a higher end led screen. That screen is like 2010 quality. Also maybe a more premium chassis. Other than that based off of everyones review it looks like a great Logic control surface. Great deep dive.
We need more of your expertise please. 🙏🏾 Totally appreciate the gain staging lesson which I struggle with most. But I will need to watch it a few more times to get the gist of fully putting into application.
woudl be nice if we coudl disable that 'analog behavior' from eth past and directly mix hot without first normalising to see something and then reduce teh gain again thats just stupid
Will it work om logic 11
Bro thank you , ive been struggling with this process for a long time
Glad to help
Yeah, I’ve been waiting since February for mine. They claim it’s out, and didn’t communicate any delays until I reached out to nektar. They just shrugged and gave me the runaround with no indication on when it’ll be available. Not a great start..
omg subbing you right now. I'm a self taught engineer and you are definitely holding massive exp under your belt. Would love to see more.
Thanks for the sub!
What's the key command to normalize region?
It may differ based on the version of Logic you’re using. Try looking under the edit menu in the main tracks view.
This was a great video. Didn't realize the DAW channels wouldn't clip. Very simple and straightforward explanation.
Glad it was helpful!
People have much to gain by watching you sir!
I see what you did there. Thanks for watching.
Only for Logic, too bad. What about Cubase?
I use Logic, but Cubase is next.
This can be the best production information video before the sleep good night man..
This is helpful information. I usually just turn down the volume directly on the plugin, then use the mixer knob to adjust the instrument sound to taste in context with the other sounds in the beat/song. You exposed some new techniques. I'll be watching this video over, until I understand what you were doing with the gain plugin and the peak and loudness. Can you do a mixing tutorial video? Thanks for sharing your expertise. Blessings and peace to you and yours.
That would be happy to do one when I can.
Jaw dropping tips! I feel like Indiana Jones stumbling upon a temple in the middle of the jungle.
Thanks so much
Thanks for the helpful video. Do you have insights on how to use Nektarine with a deep instrument plugin like Battery 4?
At the moment, the CS 12 uses smart controls in logic pro to manipulate synthesizer and instrument parameters. Nektar intends to hopefully add functionality that allows for deep integration as with audio processing plug-ins.
Hi Maurice, how did you get the CS12 layout in Nektarine? Not enough decoders and buttons in the Instrument Encoder template.
Worked it out. My input monitoring settings were off.
Gain staging is King
With Nektarine app, it is possible to map functions like: "Create a new Track", "Delete", "Cut on Playhead", etc.??????
You can assign any key command to the marker buttons. But then they could not be used for markers. I just use key commands.
Thanks
32 bit float is better for newbs but I prefer to do it correctly first .
23 bit hot tip blew my mind
Fun stuff right?
Great explanation and thoughtful language - I’ll need to watch a few times however as there is a fair bit of info! Cheers Maurice. JPMusic
Thanks so much for watching watching
Excellent- thank you
Glad you enjoyed it
Excellent explanation. Thanks Maurice.
Glad it was helpful!
Great video thanks. How does pre-fader metering fit in to this?
Pre-fader metering is just a good way to see the level of the signal entering the channel. But it’s also important to check post fader metering to see what is exiting the channel and being sent to downstream processors
Of all the gain staging videos I’ve seen on UA-cam this is by far one of the clearest and most concise ones I’ve seen. Thanks, Maurice!
Thx so much
🙏
Any tips on gainstaging instrument tracks that have Neural plugins or amp sims?
There would be no difference. -18 full scale average would still be the optimal input level. You can then increase or decrease the input level a bit, to achieve the desired tone.
@@chevaliermusic thanks!
This is very great to know. It’s really interesting that you understand how to use it. Okay so I can have your input and mix my projects
Glad it was helpful!
Very helpful. Thank you Maurice.
My pleasure!
Well done! This video answered a lot of unknowns and questions with mixing..
Glad it was helpful!
I had to write to Nektar assistance because nothing about the mapping part is working here. Strange but probably I need just to install everything from zero.
Great ! May be i miss something but is there a "select mode" when you are using a midi instrument ?
It’s the same mode.
Hi Maurice, how do you give a name to the knobs you assigned using the learn mode, or do you have to do this afterwards in the Nektarine software?
Yes, this is achieved using the Nektarine app or plugin. On the left side of its controls window, you can rename parameters. On the right side, you can rename pages.
I really shouldn’t be commenting here with this account but after the last video I really have to say this is a really cool controller, so heres one for the algorithm to balance out time watched viewership vs interaction count. Compared to others that I have seen and a few I’ve used this seems like a more efficient package in every regard. Not even mentioning how they lack feature parity. After configuration and learning it, the time saved could be enormous, especially for applications that don’t automatically map/aren’t easily controllable with generic inputs.
It is indeed very different; and I’ve control surfaces that cost add much as houses. This is the best control surface I’ve used at any cost.

Cool videos, Maurice!
Thx. Wanted to keep it shorter than the deep dive.
Can anyone tell me if this has bluetooth connectivity? I want to replace a model 12 I dont need with this. But i need to stream music through studio speakers.
This is not a mixer or interface. It does not pass audio. And it does not offer a Bluetooth connectivity only USB.
I just got one of these. The thing I’d most like to discover is how I can assign previous and next preset buttons to the unit. Thanks for the video.
Most plug-ins don’t allow automation of a next or previous preset button, if the plug-in itself allows that control to be automated it can be assigned to a button, but again most do not.
Maurice, as you click through the pages you have mapped for the Automaton, the corresponding function buttons in the plugin-in do not follow. Is that mappable?
As you click through pages you have mapped, you will see the buttons or parameters you have mapped. This functionality is chosen by you, per your preferences. Whatever controls you want to see on a page from any part of the plug-in can be added on any page.
I can’t wait to buy this!!! Much needed for Logic!!!
Have you compared to the mp midi controller ?
